Welcome to The Book Advisor

The Book Advisor is our library's online site for readers' advisory. The Readers' Advisory Department is a patron-oriented library service committed to the promotion of lifelong reading.

We are excited about sharing and talking about books and are more than happy to suggest "good" titles.

We share our staff member's favorite books as well as highlight what staff members are currently reading.

We have lists of suggested titles in all the major genres and we also have an extensive list of online resources for you to consult when looking for your next read.

We have provided a section for book clubs, both new and old, that includes reading suggestions and resources.

We offer a monthly online book discussion.

Lastly, don't forget to check out our Author Alerts program and our Suggest-A-Book service.

Skeeter's Mother

Like Hilly, Skeeter’s mother is a prime example of someone deeply flawed yet somewhat sympathetic. She seems to care for Skeeter – and she also seems to have very real feelings for Constantine. Yet the ultimatum she gives to Constantine is untenable. And most of her interaction with Skeeter is critical. Do you think Skeeter’s mother is a sympathetic or unsympathetic character? Why?

Let's talk about Hilly

What do you think motivated Hilly? On one hand she’s so unpleasant to Aibileen and her own help, as well as to Skeeter once she realizes she can’t control her. But she’s a wonderful mother. Do you think you can be a good mother but at the same time a deeply flawed person?

Book Advisor

Welcome to The Book Advisor's online book discussion. Every month we will use this blog to discuss a different book and we invite you, the public, to join in the discussion. These discussions are community events so feel free to suggest titles that you enjoy and would like to see included. Happy Reading!
